Caroline O'Grady Ceramics - Guest Artist

Caroline O'Grady 1000011397.jpg

Caroline O’Grady is a ceramicist living in Eastbourne, East Sussex. She moved from London to live closer to the sea with her young children. She studied Art History at the University of Sussex as a mature student.

After taking classes locally, Caroline set up a small pottery studio at home. She enjoys exploring the characteristics of different clay types – the textures and weights bringing unique results. Her favourite material is porcelain. It is beautifully strong and light. It can be thrown on a wheel or hand built. The coloured glazes, ceramic crayons and coloured slips she uses shine through unsullied on the lovely white surface.

The verdant rolling hills, with glorious views of sea and the iconic white cliffs, are a constant source of inspiration. Her series of torsos express the local countryside, whilst the porcelain turret pieces celebrate white cliffs and sea creatures.
