Ruth Knight Ceramics

My work largely explores the beauty in decay - how age, weathering and imperfection can still be beautiful. This theme is deeply rooted in a close family member’s battle with dementia, it has provided me a way to express my grief and continues to shape my practice.

Since moving to Sussex 3 years ago, the local landscape has deeply influenced me. I’ve always been connected to water and the sea, but the South Downs has provided me with a sense of peace that I can’t find on the beach.  To bring this place into my work, I have been collecting wild clays and rocks whilst walking on the downs, and have been experimenting with ways I can incorporate them into my work.
