After studying art history at the University of East Anglia in the mid- 1980s, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Art Therapy at Hertfordshire College of Art & Design. I then moved to Brighton to take up a post in psychiatry in the NHS, where I worked for nine years.
I have always had a particular passion for life drawing. Six years ago I made a commitment to develop my skills, starting as a member of Tom Benjamin’s life class at the Paddock Studios, then becoming a member of the Star Group, a longstanding community of artists who meet in Lewes to work from a life model and exhibit together. Life drawing is both a discipline and a form of meditation for me.
I also spend time working independently from my studio at home. Here I use a variety of media, including acrylic paint to create semi-abstract pieces with bold motifs, sometimes figurative, often including animals or birds. I use layering and printing, and draw directly onto the surface of the canvas or board, using acrylic matt medium as a fixative.
