I walk most days through the wonderful Sussex countryside, and absorb the unfolding

drama of the weather, light, and seasonal shifts. I paint in response to the appearance of

patterns, textures, colours and shapes that ebb and flow throughout each year. The tall,

colourful grasses that rise and fall, a drifting breeze, the rhythms of the tide, the chalky

pathways of the Downs evoke a sense of freedom, the joy of being wild.

In the studio, I search for this through the process of painting. Initial sweeping marks and

gestures in charcoal build structure and form, from which to recreate a moment, now lost.

Thin layers of paint build abstracted and descriptive elements that slowly gather and evolve

as the painting takes form. Expressive, energetic layers of thick paint and any marks left

behind, help reconnect the painting with its source as its shifts towards completion.

I studied Fine Art at Solent University and have been painting in oils ever since. I have shown

work in London, and locally. I continuously push my work forwards and take an

experimental approach to painting.
