Kitty is a contemporary artist, who graduated with a degree in illustration in 2003. She was the winner of the ‘PaperHouse future of design award for specialist illustration’ at the Business Design Centre Islington, and is now an abstract painter.
“My work is a response to my surroundings. The Sussex coastline, the beautiful South Downs and Sussex landscape feed me with a wealth of inspiration. I am continually captivated by the sky, its colour, texture and movement are my biggest stimulus.
Paintings evolve and emerge in response to the landscape. Each painting tells a story, capturing a moment in time, each mark, drip and smudge adding to the works narrative.
Drawing inspiration from my local environment, I work intuitively, building up and layering paint, often scraping back to expose hints or memories of previous marks. I enjoy the depth subtle washes of colour provide, adding to the history of the canvas and reflecting our ever-changing landscape.”
Kitty now lives and works as a full time artist from her garden studio near Brighton Sussex.
